About Mamma Jay
Hi, I’m Mamma Jay!
I’ve always enjoyed cooking and this blog was created to celebrate the rich heritage of my native heath – Malaysia. Malaysian food is a pastiche of various cultures (Malay, Chinese and Indian) and cuisines, which makes it unique and above all…tasty!
The culinary skills of my dear mother, who hailed from Pondicherry in India, was a major influence on me. Thus the reason why I want to continue to walk in her footsteps to share her tasty food lest it be forgotten.
The Indian recipes you will find on this blog are mainly inspired by her. She cooked all her food in traditional Indian clay pots which does a wonderful job in preserving flavours and therefore enhancing the taste even further. To this day, I still make my own spice pastes and powders, taking the time to sun dry and roast the ingredients, just like how my mother used to do. This gives the dishes the extra fragrance and adds depth to the flavour.
Hope you have fun trying the recipes here and indulging!
